Extraterrestrial Ceramics
(series)
In 2018, the artist spent an entire year working along with scientists at the Leiden Astronomical Observatory.
This project, developed in that collaborative setting, took the soil composition of different places of our Solar System as its starting point.
Burning process of the extraterrestrial soil to transform it into ceramics.
NASA’s radar image of planet Venus.
With the support of astrophysicists and a geologist, the exact soil composition of Venus, Mars, Mercury, and the Moon were replicated.
Subsequently, these extraterrestrial soils were turned into ceramics.
The resulting forms, in some cases, have been inspired by ancient ceramics, allowing for a connection between our distant past and our future; in other cases, the sculptural form has taken on a more organic outcome, which emphasizes the geological dimension of the project.
